Queensland

The Queensland Murray Darling Basin (QMDB) is home to 221 500 people who live in 27 local government areas. People have long been part of the basin environment, the area has a rich human culture heritage stretching back at least 20,000 years and probably further. The Queensland portion of the basin is 260 791 square kilometres, which is approximately 15% of the State, and accounts for quarter of the area of the Murray Darling Basin, home to Australia's largest and most famous river system.

Major river systems that feed the QMDB are the border rivers, and the Condamine-Balonne, Warrego and Paroo Rivers. The region is remarkable for its rich and varied landforms and fauna and flora species.
